Lazio playmaker Mauri arrested as new betting probe launched

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri has been arrested as part of a betting probe.

The capital club's captain was one of 19 people being held as the authorities' investigation into alleged match-fixing gathers pace.

Zenit St Petersburg defender Domenico Criscito's national team room and the home of Juventus boss Antonio Conte have been searched by police.

Mauri was one of numerous players targeted yesterday morning, with Padova's former Genoa midfielder Omar Milanetto another who will be facing questions.

Police have also arrested five Hungarian citizens who it is claimed are part of a cell controlled by a betting syndicate in Singapore.
