Lazio coach Sarri: World Cup timing an insult to football

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has hit out at the timing of this year's World Cup.

Sarri is upset the season will be disrupted by the Qatar tournament.

After victory over Monza last night, the coach said: "I see it as an insult to football. If someone explains to me what the Qatari movement can give to football, excluding the money at Manchester City and PSG, I can change my mind.

"We have respected the calendar and now the break is convenient, given the injuries."

He added, "This was a game at risk, the sixth in 18 days, between Roma and Juventus. We could have arrived unloaded after the derby, in fact in the first half hour we paid for it. Then we went out. I don't want to talk about (matchwinner Luka) Romero but he has to stay in the shadows. He is growing, the more he does it away from the spotlight the better it is for him."
