Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi was furious after their 1-1 draw with Fiorentina.
Stefan de Vrij had put the Aquile in front, but deep into stoppages Khouma Babacar converted a spot-kick, awarded using VAR technology.
“There is bitterness at conceding a penalty like that. I've seen it 20 times and don't understand how it was given," raged Inzaghi on Mediaset Premium.
“I cannot comprehend how they could've made that decision. Caicedo gets there first and Pezzella lifts his leg in front of him. In the first half, there was a foul in the area on Marco Parolo, yet VAR was not used there.
“We don't want to take anything away from Fiorentina, who are a very good side. We should've scored a second goal, it's true, but we have to progress when it comes to VAR. We've got to get used to it, fine, but at the 91st minute of course it's going to be upsetting."
Lazio director Igli Tare was also furious and chased down the referee at the final whistle, repeatedly shouting: "What on earth did you see?"
