Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce admits they're close to several deals.

United chiefs played host to Inter Milan winger Valentino Lazaro's agent Max Hagmay at the 1-0 win against Chelsea and now Bruce hopes that more new faces will follow soon.

Having been given the green light to spend, Bruce told the Evening Chronicle: "We are close to one or two things, we'll try and let's hope we can get them over the line. "We are not going to bring players in for the sake of it, they have to improve the group.

"We might have to at left-back because it looks serious with Jetro [Willems].

"It looks as though he has twisted his knee badly."
