Danish legend Michael Laudrup believes Dan Agger can become a Liverpool great.

The former Barcelona star - who very nearly signed for Liverpool in the 1980s - thinks his countryman could one day be spoken of in the same breath as legends like Alan Hansen and Ron Yeats.

"I coached him at Brondby when I was manager a few years ago," he told liverpoolfc.tv.

"He came directly from the youth team and you could see right from the beginning that he had great potential. I wasn't surprised when he went to Liverpool.

"If he can stay fit then I think he can definitely be one of the best central defenders in the game. Liverpool have had many great defenders in the past. Daniel is a very good player and if he can play at a high level in the next few years, then maybe you will be talking about him in the same breath."
