Barcelona president Joan Laporta has raised the prospect of going for Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer.
The England captain is expected to request Spurs chairman Daniel Levy listen to offers for him this summer.
Sport says Laporta is keen, but is receiving opposition from fellow directors.
Barca chiefs believe at 27, Kane would struggle to adapt quickly to the demands of the LaLiga and particularly the playing traditions of the Catalans.
Manchester United are believed to be leading the race for Kane with an offer of £90m being prepared for Levy's consideration.
