Lampard stresses patience to teach Chelsea killer instinct

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that he must be patient with the Blues' younger players.

While they did qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-1 home win over Lille, the Blues had to fight hard for the result.

And Lampard was disappointed with the chances they missed, not only in this game, but during other matches in the group stages.

Lampard told BT Sport: "With the youth, we understand those bumps in the road will come, whether individually or collectively.

"I push them a lot, I'm quite tough with them, and I want them to work and improve. But at the same time, you do have to be a bit patient. That's where the balance of the team and the squad is important – the older, more experienced players do help them.

"We have got a good balance but I think today was a strong sign of how much work we have to do. It should have been a game that was finished much earlier.

"It's been a little bit the story of our season at times and that's the biggest thing, for me, we need to improve."
