Chelsea have ended a three match winless streak by beating Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Goals from Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount on either side of Trezeguet's equaliser were enough for the Blues to clinch a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.
After missing Saturday's loss to West Ham with a hip injury, Abraham proved his importance to Frank Lampard's side by scoring a strong header from Reece James' cross with 24 minutes played.
Trezeguet bundled in an equaliser shortly before the interval, but it took only a few minutes after the restart for Mount to restore Chelsea's lead with a thumping volley.
The west London club restored the three point gap with third-placed Manchester City, while Villa slipped to one point above the relegation zone.
Speaking after the game, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said his side were back.
He told BBC Sport: "I thought we were great today. I'm pleased because that was us again, we had a blip against West Ham and today we were back.
"Our character at half-time was important and we carried off where we left off. The disappointment of the day is we didn't score two or three.
"Villa are stubborn, have picked up results on the road and you can see why. They have good players and are well organised."
