Lambert not surprised as Villa easily beaten again

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says he was not surprised as his side were again heavily beaten on Boxing Day.

Villa were beaten 4-0 at home by Tottenham on Wednesday after coming off an 8-0 loss to Chelsea on the weekend but the two negative results are not a shock to Lambert who tried to remain philosophical during the post-match.

"I'm not surprised by anything in football," he told Sky Sports.

"Things can happen. You know it can happen, especially when you are playing one of the top sides."

Lambert added: "We rode our luck massively in the first half - Spurs were very good in the first half.

"They (the players) will be fine. Whether we win, lose or draw, they will be fine. We always try to treat them the same way and try to keep their spirits the same.

"One thing in football is that you can't dwell on it and you have to bounce back - there is no other way."
