Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says there's been little mention from Randy Lerner over a new contract.
The pair speak at least four times a week.
And Lambert told the Sunday Express: "I won't tell you what me and Randy talk about, that's private, but I've known the remit here from day one. He has always been honest and open.
"When things were ropey last season I had his support and it's the same now. The number of sackings is ridiculous. If you're going to build something in 18 months, you'll never do it.
"I'm lucky that Randy has been fantastic in that aspect. You need people at the top to believe in what you are doing.
"If it came off [the new contract] you'd think you're doing something right but it's not that advanced. There's never any great dialogue in signing a new contract. The relationship is easy. If something materialises Randy and I will talk but it won't be hours of dialogue."
