LaLiga president Javier Tebas admits he's happy Lionel Messi chose to stay with Barcelona.

Messi withdrew his transfer request a fortnight ago and has committed to Barca for the new season.

Tebas concedes Messi's decision is a relief, acknowledging how important the Argentine is to Spanish football's profile.

"It's a relief that Leo Messi is in LaLiga and on the cards," he said.

"It's important for our competition. He's been doing it since he was little. I hope he will end his career here."
