LaLiga authorities target May resumption

LaLiga authorities aim to restart the competition on May 12.

Sport reports their delegate commission had a meeting last week by video conference. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Betis, Levante, Valencia and Villarreal are the commission, along with Deportivo La Coruña, Cadiz, Las Palmas, Alcorcon, Lugo and Almeria from the second division.

The coronavirus situation was the topic of the meeting and La Liga wanted to discuss when it could return to action. They are looking at various scenarios, including finishing before the Euros. One of these is starting again on April 24.

That would mean five match rounds were lost and can be recovered in midweek games. That could also mean matches behind closed doors for a while.

That takes into account that only the dates April 28-29 and May 5-6 are currently being considered for European fixtures.

Another situation is that the league could start the first weekend of May. But perhaps most of all, the league starting on May 12 is the most likely - and they still believe they can get it finished before the Euros.
