Lahm insists Bayern Munich will miss Man Utd signing Schweinsteiger

Philipp Lahm says it is a crying shame that Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to leave Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old midfielder will join Manchester United in a £15million deal on Monday and his captain at club level admits the departure will leave a gaping hole both on and off the pitch at the Allianz Arena.

Former Germany skipper Lahm told Sport1 television: "It's a pity that our paths are now dividing. We've been through so much together so it really is a shame.

"We played football together for the first time when we were 16. We're going to miss him. "Anybody who knows him knows that he is always looking for challenges so we've got to accept his decision."

Schweinsteiger will join United after spending his entire professional career with Bavarian giants Bayern. During his time with the famous German club, he has won eight Bundesliga titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and seven German Cups while also winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Germany.
