Lack of experience prompts Benitez to avoid Newcastle recall for Coventry hotshot Armstrong

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has decided against calling young striker Adam Armstrong back from his loan spell at League One side Coventry City.

The Spaniard believes that the 19-year-old, who has scored 19 league goals this season, lacks the experience of competing at the business end of the Premier League as the Magpies strive to get out of the bottom three in the final eight matches of the season.

Benitez told The Chronicle: "We must allow him to stay on loan. At this time you need experience.

"We have players that have to manage the pressure. Maybe it could be fine for him to come back but you never know and you can't take any risks.

"I prefer to go with senior players with more experience.

"He is a great lad and he is doing well. But there is a big difference between playing young players and those with experience."
