LA Galaxy target Chelsea's Lampard to replace Beckham

LA Galaxy are targeting Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as their replacement for departing big name star David Beckham. The Daily Mail says wife-to-be Christine Bleakley has lost her job presenting television's Daybreak programme - and begins a three-month stint co-hosting Dancing On Ice next month. There are then certain to be opportunities for such a couple in the United States. Just ask Posh and Becks.

Los Angeles Galaxy would like him to stay, but Beckham has played his final game for the MLS champions this week, a friendly in Australia against Melbourne Victory. Like Beckham, Lampard is an adidas poster boy and, as far as Galaxy are concerned the perfect replacement.

He is a highly decorated and influential midfield stalwart and an intelligent talker with the sort of ambassadorial qualities to maintain the sport's progress in the USA. Galaxy are quite capable of matching his £150,000-a-week wage, although they would not be willing to pay a transfer fee for a 33-year-old with no sell-on value.
