LA Galaxy President excited about Newcastle

LA Galaxy President Tom Payne has been in Newcastle this week for meetings with Newcastle Jets Chairman Ken Edwards and so far he has liked what he has seen.

The MLS giants arrive in town in late November to play an exhibition match against the Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Saturday, November 27, and Payne was eagerly anticipating the event.

"It is great to be back in Australia again and I am so happy that we are playing here next month against Newcastle Jets," Payne told tribalfootball.com.

"I want to thank Nathan Tinkler and Ken Edwards for their hospitality. I can see why the city of Newcastle is so excited about the new owners of the Jets.

"These guys are making it happen and I am sure by the time we get here in November this place will be rocking."

On Monday, the Galaxy took out the MLS Supporter's Shield when they defeated FC Dallas 2-1 at The Home Depot Center to finish with the best record in the competition and Payne hopes they can go one step better in the play-offs before their visit to Newcastle.

"Our team has just won a major title in the MLS and by the time we get back here in November we hope we will be here as MLS champions," he added.

? "We choose our overseas tours very carefully and we have reasons such as branding, business and also enjoyment for our players.

"We have already played out in this part of the world and we really do love it here.

"Newcastle is amazing and staying here next to a huge working port is magnificent.

"We are looking forward to putting on a great show for Novocastrians and Australian soccer fans"
