KV Mechelen goalkeeper Michael Verrips has gone AWOL amid interest from Sheffield United.

Verrips, reports HLN, has gone missing from training as the Blades move for the shot-stopper.

An approach to KVM is yet to be made, though it's claimed contact is ongoing with the player's camp.

KVM coach Wouter Vrancken said, “I don't really know what's going on either. This completely surprised me. We had conversations in which he indicated that he wanted to stay. It's a strange situation. But I want to hear Michael first before I draw my conclusions. Look, I know him well. This is not for him.

“It must have been whispered to him by someone. I don't understand why he would do such a thing. You may want to arrange a transfer. But is this the right way? I am curious."
