Vincent Kompany has warned any big-name signing that talent won't be enough to make it at Manchester City.
"It is not enough to have players of great talent," he said. "You have to have a strong personality and a strong mind.
"Any good player can come into a club like this. But if they don't have that hunger and that willingness, then the team will not grow and you will achieve nothing."
The 23-year-old has won plaudits from his manager and City's fans for his committed displays in a variety of roles since arriving from Hamburg last August and he is determined to put in as much work as necessary to ensure he is a long-term fixture in a successful Blues side.
He said: "I believe I am one of the players building for the future. I can't sit back and wait for things to happen, because if you do that as a footballer, then you stay at the same level.
"At the same time, you cannot forget the basics - hard work, dedication and the hunger to become a better player."
