Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has made it clear that he won't allow club captain Jose Fonte to leave this summer.

According to recent reports, the 31-year-old Portuguese defender is a summer target for Aston Villa who are still trying to replace Ron Vlaar.

When asked about a potential move for his skipper, the Southampton boss replied: "I don't know if he is a target for another club.

"He is our captain, he's a very strong defender. He's a club man like [goalkeeper] Kelvin Davis and not for one second would I sell that player.

"He's part of the team, he's the captain. There is no way we will sell the player."

Fonte joined the Saints from Crystal Palace in 2010 and has seen the south coast club rise through the ranks before establishing themselves in England's top flight.
