Holland coach Ronald Koeman has identified the weaknesses in Barcelona's play.

Koeman says the problems have been with the current team since last season.

He told Sport: "Barça is no longer the same as it was a few years ago because it does not have the players it had before either.

"Only Piqué, Busquets and Messi are from that spine and the three are over 30 years old. It is the law of life. It happened to the Dream Team of Barça and the Dutch team of 88 with Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard and myself who became the European champion.

"Nothing is eternal and you have to know how to renew yourself. And sometimes you have to understand that to dominate again, you first have to spend a few years in the desert."

Koeman continued: "I see two aspects. One, of intensity. Whether you like it or not, today the great teams play at a very high rate for ninety minutes. And it is difficult for Barça to maintain that consistency. We saw it in the famous match against Liverpool, but also in the Spanish Super Cup against Atlético this year. Barça was over eighty minutes, the last ten minutes were disconnected and Atlético, more intense and fresh, beat them.

"(Secondly), it does not dominate the games as in the past. In this aspect, Barça has to return to its hallmarks, because it is part of its DNA. Barça must always have control, but more effective control."
