Klopp notices positive signs as Liverpool secure victory over Lyon

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool's victory over Lyon was a "sign" that his team was improving over preseason.

The Reds registered their first win in five friendly matches, coming back from a goal down to win 3-1.

Memphis Depay's fourth-minute penalty was cancelled out by Roberto Firmino, before Joachim Andersen's own goal four minutes later gave Liverpool the lead.

Bournemouth and Aston Villa target Harry Wilson then scored a long-range screamer in the second half to top off the victory.

Speaking to the club's website, Klopp said: "I said it and it's clear: we will become fresher and fresher and things will happen for us again, but you have to go through this intense period and we are not through. Today was a good sign, finishing the pre-season on a high is obviously important for all of us.

"Lyon is a really, really good team and we didn't let that happen really today with the speed they have up front with Depay, Traore and Dembele, especially in the first half. That's just good.

"We conceded an interesting goal with the penalty, that's how it is [and] you can see in these situations that all the boys need to adapt to it again. It was only three weeks but now Ali is two days in training like Mo, like Bobby, like Naby and like Shaq, so that means they need just a bit of time but you see the natural quality of them as well and that helps us of course.

All round it was a much better performance, but again, I said that will happen. Now we have three more days to prepare for the City game and then we will see what we can do there."
