Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists they won't be at full strength for the Community Shield against Manchester City.
While Mohamed Salah and Brazilian duo Alisson and Roberto Firmino - who won the Copa America with Brazil - could get a few minutes in a friendly against Lyon on Wednesday, Klopp suggested they wouldn't be risked for the Community Shield next Sunday.
“We cannot risk any players. We have to see who will be able to line-up and who will train and who will play," he said of the Wembley game against City.
“But, of course, we have to make sure that we have a line-up that gives us an opportunity to win the game.
“For me, it has nothing to do with the rest of the season. It's a game and, even if we only have eight players available, I would like to try to win it."
Klopp was slightly taken aback when it was suggested few put much emphasis on the Community Shield, joking: “I don't know exactly why people play this competition if it means nothing. Why don't we cancel it then?"
