Klaassen reveals Koeman influence on switch from Ajax to Everton

Davy Klaassen admits Ronald Koeman played a large role in convincing him to move to Merseyside.

The Ajax captain signed for Everton on Thursday after the two clubs agreed a fee of 25m.

Last month, Klaassen led Ajax to the Europa League final, where they eventually lost to Manchester United.

It would take hard work to convince the Dutchman to leave the club he made his professional debut for at 18 years of age.

But Klaassen has revealed that a chat with the Everton manager was all he needed to commit to the Toffees.

"I spoke a few weeks ago with Ronald Koeman about Everton. I wanted to come here and check if this was the right club for me and since I came here I feel so happy. It's a great club," Klaassen told the club's website.

"The moment that I spoke with the manager directly I got a good feeling. He's an honest guy, we talked about the Club, about the way he wants to play and that gave me a positive feeling.

"I talked to him about the Club and everything we want to achieve and he was really positive. It's difficult to leave Ajax but I think this is a good step for me now and I'm really looking forward to my time here."
