Kansas City Wizards offer themed web browser to fans

The Kansas City Wizards became the first Major League Soccer club to launch a team-themed Firefox web browser Wednesday through a partnership with innovative web-technology firm Brand Thunder. By using the "Boom," as the plug-in is known, Firefox users will be able to navigate directly to key pages at kcwizards.com from anywhere on the web. Visit kcwizards.com/browser to download the Boom and see screen shots of a Firefox browser with the Wizards Boom installed.

"We are very proud to be the first MLS team to work with Brand Thunder on a custom Firefox Boom," Wizards New Media Manager Kyle Rogers said. "Soccer supporters are technology-minded and have embraced all previous additions to our online portfolio from our official blog Hillcrest Road to the January launch of our Twitter page and our other social-media components. Our fans will also make great use of this new web-based feature."

Kansas City's Boom will include RSS feeds from kcwizards.com and hillcrestroadblog.com and links to the team's social media pages on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Booms are lightweight active customizations that can include themes, toolbars, sidebars and other content or functionality. Users can dynamically switch between Booms without restarting their browser. Other MLS clubs will produce their own customized Booms in the weeks to come, and MLS will create a Boom for League fans.
