Andrei Kanchelskis has claimed that Manchester United's Memphis Depay has the potential to become the best winger in the world.

The Dutch international arrived for a fee of £25million from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, but has failed to impress in his debut season with the Red Devils.

Depay has managed only two league goals from 18 appearances and his last start for the club came in the 2-1 defeat to Norwich City on 19 December but former Red Devils winger Kanchelskis is still backing him to become an Old Trafford star.

"He [Depay] is a very good player," Kanchelskis told 888Sport.com.

"He's a skilful winger with good crossing ability and a great change of pace.

"He has the potential to become the best winger in the world."
