Kammy: I urged Jose to sign Van Dijk for Man Utd, but he told me...

Liverpool ace Virgil Van Dijk could have played for their rivals Manchester United instead.

That is according to British football presenter Chris Kamara, who spoke about the Dutch national team captain this week.

Van Dijk arrived at Liverpool from Southampton in January 2017 for a massive £75 million transfer fee.

Speaking on the BBC's Proper Football Podcast, Kamara said: “I can exclusively reveal that I told Jose [Mourinho] to take him to Manchester United and Jose said 'this lot won't give me the money for him.' And he went to Liverpool."

A guest on the show, Birmingham City veteran Troy Deeney, stated: “That's going to go viral, love it. Man Utd fans are going to be in absolute tatters now."

United fans will be disappointed to learn their club did not have the funds to secure a world class defender for their manager at the time.
