Alessandro Del Piero is on the verge of signing a new contract with Sydney FC according to CEO Tony Pignata.
The Juventus great's brother and agent, Stefano, will travel to Australia this week to put the final touches on a contract extension with reports linking the striker to Brazilian club Flamengo as merely speculation.
"Stefano rang me from Italy to assure me that the reports regarding Flamengo were untrue and that Alessandro will only talk to Sydney because he would love to stay on for another year," Pignata said.
"Stefano will be here by the weekend and we should be able to sit down and discuss a new contract for next year.
"We want him to stay, he wants to stay and the only thing we need to sort out is a few minor details regarding some marketing stuff.
"It's now a matter of finalising the deal, so it's looking good."
