Juventus GM Marotta defends summer market campaign

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta has defended their summer market campaign.

Marotta has been criticised for his failure to add any big names to Juve's squad.

When asked to reveal how he would respond to his critics, Marotta said: "That we have signed 11 players! Practically a team. And of these 11 players, four are now with their respective national teams.

"We have three objective: Rejuvenating the team but with players who are already rich in experience at the highest level, renewing the atmosphere, and lowering the wage bill.

"We have realised all of them and managed to complete the squad."

Marotta was then pressed on the one that got way, Edin Dzeko, the Wolfsburg striker.

"We consider him to be a player who can make the difference and we did everything. It was within our abilities to bring him to Juve.

"Unfortunately (Uli) Hoeness showed himself to be unmovable," Marotta concluded.
