Jordan unimpressed by Aston Villa appointing Gerrard

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan is unconvinced by Aston Villa's appointment of Steven Gerrard.

Jordan has questioned whether Gerrard is the right man to help Villa compete for the Premier League's top six positions.

"What do Aston Villa's ownership want? This is the key question," Jordan said on talkSPORT.

"If they want to be inside the top 10 then it's entirely plausible that Steven Gerrard can deliver that.

"If you start to move inside the top six, okay, which one of these clubs' places are Aston Villa going to take? Which one of the eight or nine teams are they going to take it from?

"The easier option was for him was to stay in Scotland because it's not about when Steven Gerrard becomes a top manager, it's if he becomes a top manager.

"I'm looking at Steven Gerrard the manager in a dimension that he doesn't have the experiences of, at a club that seems to be setting its stool out for one direction and one direction only and that's competing at the top of the Premier League.

"I think it's an incredibly difficult ask but you've got to test yourself and if the opportunity is the right one then you have to take it here and now."
