John McGinn says Aston Villa were punished for a lack of experience in Saturday's draw with Burnley.
The hosts blew their one-goal lead twice in the 2-2 result at Villa Park.
McGinn said: "We didn't manage the game properly and we got punished.
"I know we are inexperienced at this level a lot of us but we are learning the hard way.
"It is painful, you want to win. It doesn't matter the level whether it is League Two or anywhere, you want to win games.
If you have just scored it is so important, everyone knows you are vulnerable.
"But we concede and it is a kick in the teeth because it is a game we deserve to win."
