Joey Barton step away taking Bristol Rovers job

Former Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton is on the brink of being confirmed new manager of Bristol Rovers.

The Daily Mail says Bristol Rovers are expected to complete their move to appoint former Burnley captain Barton as their new head coach over the next 48 hours.

Barton has been in talks with the League One club since the start of last week; discussions over the club's long-term strategy among a number of issues that required ironing out.

But there was significant hope on Sunday that a breakthrough had been made with Barton set to be installed as Paul Tisdale's replacement this week.

It is understood coaches Clint Hill and Andy Mangan - who worked under Barton at his previous managerial post with Fleetwood - are set to join the 38-year-old at Rovers.
