Joel Griffiths is close to signing a permanent deal with Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan.
The 30-year old is currently on loan from Newcastle Jets and reports suggested that he was set to undertake another loan stint but news has come to hand that a three-year deal believed to be worth $350,000 is on the verge of being agreed to and completed.
"I'm very hopeful of gaining a contract in China," Griffiths told The World Game.
"Newcastle have been very understanding of my situation and I'm just hoping that I can get back to China on a permanent basis because that's where I feel I have my best, and probably, only chance of getting a Socceroos call-up.
"The fact that my brother Ryan has signed on again is another massive attraction for me in going back and also the fact that the club are involved in the Asian Champions League again."
