Joe Cole desperate for Aston Villa debut

Joe Cole hopes for an Aston Villa debut against West Ham United.

If Cole starts it will be his Premier League debut for Villa against the club he joined when he was 12 years old and has played over 150 games for in two spells. He was relegated with them as well.

"We had a worse start than Villa. We didn't win at home until December," he told the Daily Express.

"Listen, I don't want that again. It lives with you for ever. It was horrible. As a young person, 21, you take it personally.

"It comes down to pride. No matter how many times I've won the league, as proud as I am about that, a lucky man, there are still moments when it comes back to you. It's part of me now.

"You don't want it to happen again. You doubt yourself, you question yourself - 'Could I have done more?'

"I bumped into Glenn Hoddle on a golf course and he talked to me, lifted me, said I'd still have a great career.

"The thing is I had a good season personally and it got me a move to Chelsea, but, no, going down, that was tough. Still is."
