Joaquin struck twice as Valencia defeated Malaga 3-1 in their Spanish Liga opener.
Aritz Aduriz, signed from Real Mallorca this summer to help fill the gap left by David Villa, enjoyed a dream league debut for Los Che as he opened the scoring after just 10 minutes.
Ever Banega floated in an outswinging corner from the right and Aduriz climbed highest on the edge of the six-yard box to thump an unstoppable header past Francesc Arnau.
Joaquin then took centre-stage to earn Valencia the spoils.
The 51-times capped Spain international put his side ahead in the 69th minute when he charged into the area before firing in a low cross-shot that took a deflection off Ivan Gonzalez before flying past Arnau.
The former Real Betis winger then ensured the points would be heading back to Valencia with a second goal five minutes later, smashing the ball into the far corner following good work by David Navarro and Aduriz.
