Javier Mascherano has revealed he was far happier with Liverpool than his trophy-laden spell at Barcelona.
The Argentina international spent three years on Merseyside before eight seasons with Barcelona and now plies his trade back in South America with Estudiantes, having left Hebei China Fortune last month.
"I obviously have a lot of love for Barcelona, I spent the best years of my career there but I would choose Liverpool," he told CNN.
“I feel something special for them. Yes, right now is the best in the world, Liverpool represents me a lot."
During his time with Barcelona, Mascherano won a plethora of titles - including two Champions League crowns and five league titles, but won nothing during his spell with Liverpool.
