Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat believes that lack of goals is the main factor behind his side's poor start to the season.

Despite their lavish summer splurge, Newcastle have made a poor start to the season and are currently rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table with only 2 points on the board.

The signs are already looking ominous for Newcastle but Janmaat believes that the Magpies would be doing much better if only the attacking players managed to find the back of the net more often.

Janmaat told the Chronicle: "It's a big game (against Watford) now. It's important that we get that first win under the belt and Saturday is the next opportunity to do that.

"We have to win otherwise the pressure will only continue to increase. I try to get forward when I can, but collectively we have to offer a much bigger goalscoring threat. I try to join in, but I am a defender and that has to be my main job. It is not just about the attackers when it comes to scoring goals, but as a team, we have to find a way of posing more of a threat. We have to score more."
