Ivory Coast call for Man Utd attacker Amad

Manchester United winger Amad has been called up to the Ivory Coast squad this month.

The youngster, who is excelling on loan at Sunderland in the Championship, is back in the plans of his nation.

Amad last played for Ivory Coast back in 2021, given his lack of game time in subsequent seasons.

Ivory Coast have qualification games for the next Africa Cup of Nations.

"I think 30-odd games from never having a run of three games on the bounce has proved his body has almost shut down," Amad's club manager Tony Mowbray told club media about his fitness at present.

"His hamstrings are really sore and tight. There is no tear and there is no damage.

"He is just in a place where we need to give him a break and check him out of the equation for a week, at the most, and then he will finish the season strong, I am sure."
