Italy upbeat over crocked AC Milan midfielder Pirlo

Italy's medical staff are upbeat over the recovery of AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo from a calf injury.

He was initially ruled out for two to three weeks and is expected to return for the third group game against Slovakia.

"The results of today's tests were comforting," said Professor Enrico Castellacci following a course of intensive physiotherapy on the left calf muscle.

It is now increasingly unlikely that Pirlo will be dropped for the tournament in South Africa.
