Italy coach Mancini on Poland draw: Errors expected

Italy coach Roberto Mancini admitted some frustration after their 1-1 draw with Poland.

Napoli attacker Piotr Zielinski had given Poland a deserved first half lead, but Fiorentina's Federico Chiesa came off the bench and shook things up, earning a penalty that Chelsea midfielder Jorginho converted.

Mancini said, “It's the first important game, so a few errors can happen, but overall the lads did well.

“We made a few too many mistakes when playing out from the back and that gave Poland the opportunity to counter, which was what they wanted to do anyway."

Nice forward Mario Balotelli went off after an hour and seemed very out of sorts, including a muscular problem that saw an ice-pack strapped to his thigh on the bench.

“Mario needs to play, he is an experienced player on the international stage, but his fitness levels are an issue right now.

“There are many young players we can build on and I think we saw that in the second half, as we pushed forward and more importantly didn't make as many errors in our passing."
