Italy coach Mancini hails Hungary fans; excited by Raspadori Gnonto

Italy coach Roberto Mancini paid tribute to Hungary's fans after last night's win in Budapest.

The 2-0 victory saw Italy pip Hungary for a place in the Nations League finals.

Despite the disappointment, the home support applauded the players at the final whistle and Mancini said: “The fans were extraordinary, they cheered on Hungary from start to finish and I want to thank them for their applause towards us too. Marco Rossi is doing an amazing job, it's not a fluke if you beat both England and Germany.

“There were players who were on the bench today and could feature then, but this generally is the squad. It's not about experiments, I've been working on the 'new' Italy for a while already. Qualification for the Final Four might not seem like much right now, but in June it might seem better."

There are many veterans in defence, but in attack Napoli striker Giacomo Raspadori and Leeds teenager Wilfried Gnonto also impressed.

“We had two kids upfront tonight, so if these lads maintain that quality and improve over the next two years, they can become devastating."
