Italian virologist Maria Rita Gismondo insists fans should be allowed back into Serie A stadiums for the resumption of the season.
Football is now on track to resuming in Italy after the coronavirus suspension.
“I don't understand why there are so many fears on reopening the gates to football and none when authorising an open-air concert," virologist Maria Rita Gismondo told the Corriere dello Sport.
“The rules to ensure safety, like social distancing and obligatory masks, are the same in a stadium as when attending an opera. In fact, the rules would be easier to apply in a stadium than a theatre.
“I would say that it'd be better to postpone these openings, but if the theatre is open, then there's no reason why football fans shouldn't be treated the same way."
