ADO Den Haag forward Wesley Verhoek has explained his decision to turn down a move to Championship club Nottingham Forest.
The 24-year old Dutchman was on the verge of joining Forest in the summer but saw a deal collapse and he has indicated that it was his doing.
Verhoek insists that he is still keen to play abroad but said the timing to join Steve McClaren at the City Ground was just not right.
"The stories circulating that I would not move abroad to play football are nonsense," he told De Telegraaf.
"That remains my dream, but at the right club.
"(Forest are) 18th in the league with five points from five matches and Mr McClaren has thought to leave," he added.
"I was just sitting there in a town where it made no sense to go."
