IT JUST AIN’T HAPPENING: Newcastle winger Ameobi ridiculously sent off for Cardiff

Sammy Ameobi was sent off in calamitous circumstances for Cardiff City on the weekend.

The Newcastle United winger received two yellow cards which forced him off the pitch in injury-time of the Bluebirds' 0-0 draw with Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

This just did not go Ameobi's way as he was booked on the stroke of half-time for a late challenge before copping another yellow in the 96th minute for shooting after the referee had blown his whistle.

Anthony Pilkington was judged to be offside when trying to get onto Scott Malone's long ball which dropped for Ameobi, who despite hearing the whistle from match official Ian Williamson, fired a superb effort into the top corner.

For that, he received his marching orders in what was a frustrating day for the Welsh club who created 13 attempts on goal only to be constantly denied whether it be the woodwork or Addicks keeper Stephen Henderson.

Other loanees in action were Leicester City's Tom Lawrence who played a full 90 minutes for Cardiff up front alongside Pilkington while Charlton handed a debut to Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo, who came on as a second-half sub, while West Ham United's Diego Poyet also came on late as the South-East London outfit obtained a vital point which sees them remain in second bottom position.

For Cardiff, it was an opportunity missed as they stayed ninth when a win would have seen them move closer to the promotion play-off spots.
