IT JUST AIN’T HAPPENING: Newcastle winger Ameobi failing to find game time at Cardiff

Sammy Ameobi's loan at Cardiff City has already delivered a number of ups and downs.

The Newcastle United winger, who is on a season-long loan with the Bluebirds, scored in just his third appearance for the club in August but on Tuesday night only came on for the dying stages of the 3-2 victory over Brentford

Ameobi went close at the death but his side-footed effort was wide of the mark before Kenwyne Jones produced a last-gasp winner for Cardiff.

On the weekend, he replaced Jones in the 68th minute as Cardiff led 2-1 before Sheffield Wednesday hit back to force a 2-2 draw.

Ameobi's nomination in this column this week may be a little bit harsh but at 23, I'm sure he would want to be playing more than a bit-part role at a Championship club.

Of his 19 league appearances for Russell Slade, Ameobi has started just three times, completing the full 90 minutes on just one occasion.

He has totalled 596 minutes at an average of 31 minutes per appearance which is a number he would have expected to be higher when he moved to Wales from Newcastle in the summer.

Nevertheless, Ameobi is a regular in Slade's matchday 18 of a Cardiff side sitting seventh on the tier two table, so hopefully for him, he is given more time as the season progresses with the view to having a say in the Bluebirds' run towards the promotion play-offs.
