IT JUST AIN’T HAPPENING: Aston Villa loanee Baker adds to Bristol City woes

Aston Villa loanee Nathan Baker scored with clinical precision on Tuesday night, only his goal managed to nestle in the top corner of his own net.

Under pressure from Preston North End forward Joe Garner, Baker got on the end of Paul Gallagher's cross and headed past his own keeper Richard O'Donnell in the 52nd minute of his side's 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate.

It was a poor clearance that went terribly wrong for the 24-year-old Englishman, however he would of breathed a sigh of relief, with his teammate Aaron Wilbraham equalising shortly after.

Unfortunately for Baker, who has unfortunately featured in the column on a couple of occasions, former Robin Greg Cunningham put Preston ahead with ten minutes remaining to secure all three points for the Lilywhites.

Robins boss Steve Cotterill continued to emphasise City's bad luck this season, stating after the match: “These are tough times and we have to get through them. We deserved to win, but how many times have I said that this season?"

Own-goals like Baker's are certainly unfortunate and need to be avoided if City are to close the two-point gap between themselves and the teams above the relegation zone. City's winless run has now extended to six matches but they were granted a rare bit of luck, with the two sides below them, Charlton Athletic and MK Dons, also losing on Tuesday night.

If Baker returns to the Midlands at the end of the season, with the way Aston Villa are performing at the moment, he may very well find himself again playing Championship football in 2016-17
