Inter Milan skipper Zanetti upset with manner of Super Cup defeat

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti was angry over the manner of their Super Cup defeat to AC Milan.

The Rossoneri cancelled out Wesley Sneijder's opener with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic diving header following several charged down shots in the Italian Super Cup.

"We protested because there was a free kick in our favour that wasn't seen by the referee," Zanetti told Inter Channel.

The Inter players were furious, claiming Kevin-Prince Boateng had clattered into Dejan Stankovic during the chaotic build-up.

Just eight minutes later, Boateng turned the game around completely for Milan's 2-1 victory.

"It's too late to complain now. It's better to keep hold of the positive aspects of the game and work on the negative ones," continued Zanetti.

"The first half was good, as we approached it the right way, were comfortable on the field and controlled the opening stages.

"Then we lost our way a little bit and became more confused, especially in the second half. This can happen when a team like Inter is setting out something important and very new.

"It will take time to assimilate Gian Piero Gasperini's tactical changes. The important thing is to look back over the mistakes we made and fix them so we can be ready for the start of the season."
