Breaking this morning in Italy, Corriere dello Sport says Inter have sought to set up a swap deal with United ahead of the January market.
The Nerazzurri have offered Joao Mario in a straight swap for United midfielder Juan Mata. The Spaniard is inside the final year of his current deal, though United are expected to trigger a new 12 month extension.
United boss Jose Mourinho already has Inter's proposal on his desk - and has turned it down. However, he did leave the door open for a new option.
Mourinho, it is suggested, would be willing to take Joao Mario in a cash-plus-player swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
