Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Perisic admits he WANTED to join Manchester United last summer.

United boss Jose Mourinho attempted to sign Perisic 18 months ago - and the Croatian reveals there was another attempt last summer.

Speaking to Italian journalist Alessandro Rimi, he said: “I wanted Manchester United and I was about to accept, but I chose to stay because of Spalletti's perseverance in wanting to play an important role, which are fundamental in football.

“In future I would like to play in other countries I hope the Nerazzurri fans understand."

Perisic admitted before Croatia's clash at Wembley with England an ambition to play in the Premier League.

"I have always said that (playing in the Premier League) is my dream," he said.

"In football everything is possible, we will see in the future. Now, I'm focusing on Inter."
