Inter Milan midfielder Eriksen tribute to Man Utd legend Schmeichel ahead of caps record

Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen has paid tribute to Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel.

Eriksen is set to match Schmeichel's 100 caps record with Denmark tonight against England.

"If you ever come up and have played the same number of international matches as someone who has a name like Peter Schmeichel, then it is great in itself. But there is still a long way to go, and now it's all about the England match," he said.

"The record is not something I as such think about. I am told that I should be able to reach it, but so many things can happen in football.

"You play for Denmark because you have talent, and then of course you have to work for it. I have been lucky with few injuries, so I have not missed very many matches, and then I have been lucky that the national coaches have looked my way. They have given me the opportunity to express myself.

"It's about hard work, but in the end you just have to think about one match at a time. Reaching 100 matches is a bit strange, because it is something you probably only really think about when you have stopped."
