Inter Milan goalkeeper Onana releases statement after Cameroon axe

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana has released a statement after his axing by Cameroon.

Onana was dumped for their 3-3 draw with World Cup opponents Serbia yesterday after falling out with Cameroon coach Rigobert Song.

The keeper said this morning:

"I want to express my affection for my country and the Indomitable Lions. Yesterday, I was not allowed to be on the pitch to help Cameroon, as I always do, to achieve the team's goals. I have always behaved appropriately, and to lead the team to success. I put all my efforts and my energy into untying the bonds of an ambiguous situation, but I did not meet with the expected receptivity.

“However, I always consider and respect the decisions of the people responsible for the management and supervision of our team. All my encouragement goes to my teammates, because we have shown that we are capable of going very far in this competition. The values that I promote as a person and as a professional are those that identify me, and that I have inherited from my family since my early childhood. Representing Cameroon is a huge privilege.

"The Nation first and forever."

Onana has now left their World Cup squad and is set to play no further part in the tournament.
